How do you know when your child is ready to start school?
If their birthday falls between August and January, it’s quite straightforward, but for the ones who turn five between February and July (in NSW) parents have to make the difficult decision about whether to send them off to school when they’re only four or to hold them back a year.
Today’s school system is more demanding than ever, and according to Education Consultant Kathy Walker from Early Life Foundation, it’s important that children are socially and emotionally ready so that their first school experience is a positive one. Kathy Walker shares some tell-tale signs that your child might need another year at home, and conversely what you can do to help them prepare for all the pressures of school life. She’s also putting the finishing touches on a book about school readiness called Ready Set Go.
