 1.  ARTEXPRESS 2016

The annual ARTEXPRESS exhibition is one of the most dynamic and popular at the Art Gallery of NSW. Featuring a selection of student artworks developed for the artmaking component of the HSC examination in Visual Arts 2015, ARTEXPRESS 2016 provides insight into students’ creativity and the issues that are important to them. The exhibition encompasses a broad range of approaches and expressive forms, including ceramics, drawing, graphic design, painting, photomedia, sculpture, and textiles and fibre.

2.  LEGO DIMENSIONS WORKSHOP

The creativity of LEGO building meets the epic story-telling of LEGO video games for multi-dimensional fun for kids these April school holidays at the Microsoft Flagship Store, Pitt Street, Sydney. Join your child for 2 hours of fun, learning, building and playing a Dark Knight, Wizard, or Master Builder traveling down the Yellow Brick Road! All children participating in the holiday workshop must be accompanied by an adult and will receive a free gift pack at the end of the session. Workshops are recommended for children between the ages of 7 to 14 years old and registrations are now open.

3.  KIDS BOOK LIVE READING

Audio book narrator and performer Stig Wemyss will have your kids in stitches as he brings to life their favourite books in celebration of the new Kings Cross Library kids’ space on the mezzanine level. Stig will perform popular stories from authors including Andy Griffins in a fun and interactive live show. Kids will also get the chance to join in on the action, show off their own story telling skills and win prizes at this action packed, high energy show for 7-12 year olds. Having narrated the stories of many authors including Andy Griffiths, Tim Winton, Paul Jennings, Morris Gleitzman and Margaret Clarke, Stig is a joke-cracking funny man who makes reading cool and will have kids laughing for days.

4.  WALK AND SQUAWK

For kids aged 4 to 12 who love animals, particularly of the feathered variety, go for a walk around the Armory with Sydney Olympic Park’s BirdLife Discovery Centre volunteers. You’ll meet some amazing native wildlife and learn their calls, as well as a secret about each bird. Then the kids will have the chance to try and make those bird calls themselves, but careful, you might end up going home with a Kookaburra or Rainbow Lorikeet in the back seat.

5.  BOAT FESTIVAL

Celebrate the beauty and diversity of Australia’s heritage vessels and their craftspeople at the Maritime Museum’s Classic and Wooden Boat Festival on Darling Harbour. Over 100 beautiful boats will be on display around the museum and Darling Harbour. The precinct will come alive with an array of programs for families and boat enthusiasts, from live entertainment, cruises, maritime demonstrations, kids’ activities and a symposium.

6.  SHAKESPEARE FAN DAY


Visit the State Library to commemorate the magnificent William Shakespeare! The Library will come alive with roving performers, as well as craft activities for the kids. The whole family can enjoy the Midsummer inspired fairy grotto or have a go at balloon sword play! The Australian Children’s Laureate Leigh Hobbs will hold drawing workshops and will be there to sign purchased books. The stunning Shakespeare Room will be open all day and make sure you head to the Amaze Gallery to view Shakespeare’s first collection of works (published in 1623) known as the First Folio along with other extraordinary Elizabethan-inspired objects from the Library’s rich collections.

7. BMX COME AND TRY DAY

BMX racing is a fun sport that the whole family can participate. It is a highly regarded Olympic sport. There are no age limits and you can start from as little as 2 years old on a balance bike (mini wheeler)! You can learn more about the sport and your local club by going along to the BMX Day. All you need is long pants, long sleeve top, enclosed shoes, full face helmet (club can provide for the day) full enclosed cloves (club can provide for the day) and your bike. It will be a fun filled day that the whole family including a free sausage sizzle for all to enjoy. There will be professional coaches and riders of all ages to help you with bike setup or any enquiry that you may have.
