Being worried, anxious or concerned about our lives and world events has become so commonplace these days that we can forget God’s invitation to cast all our cares on Him.
We can forget that “living worried” isn’t what He intended for us, but instead, He offers us “peace that transcends understanding” right in the middle of our circumstances.
American pastor Chad Veach has dedicated the last 20 years of his life to ministry and preaching the Gospel and in his fourth book, Worried about Everything Because I Pray about Nothing, he teaches us how prayer factors into our experience of peace, and how to use it to overcome stress and burnout.
“Philippians 4:6-7 says, ‘be anxious for nothing, but in everything though prayer and supplication with thanksgiving, let your requests be known to God. And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your heart and your mind’,” Chad told the UNDISTRACTED podcast.
“What the Bible is teaching us is, don’t worry about anything, pray about everything,” he said.
“I’m only worried about the things I’m not praying about. [Prayer] doesn’t meant they change, but what does change is, my heart is guarded and my mind, and I start getting peace.”

In the process of prayer, Chad said we also experience the transformation Jesus speaks about where we’re called to become more Christlike.

“Anytime I start praying, it’s all of a sudden my motives get messed with,” Chad said.
“My bitterness gets messed with, my selfishness gets messed with – prayer changes things [and it’s] mostly me.
“So I’ve never left prayer and it’s like, ‘all my problems are gone’ but I have a better perspective, and now, I’m carrying peace.
“Prayer is that thing that changes you [through connecting] you to God’s presence.”
