You may have heard this week about the scientific breakthrough by the famous American geneticist Dr Craig Venter. He’s said to have created the first artificial life. A cell containing DNA that was built from scratch in a laboratory with four bottles of chemicals.

According to experts, it’s an achievement that goes way beyond regular genetic engineering; and it’s a giant leap for the scientific world.  But it’s probably got a few people thinking, “Is this ok?” “Does God want us creating artificial life in a petri-dish?”

Dr Brian Edgar is a theologian who’s done a lot of thinking about this, he’s from ISCAST – “the Institute for the Study of Christianity in an Age of Science and Technology”.
