As a father of two I was introduced to the term, “strong-willed child”, after a Kindergarten teacher had my son Max for the first time at Sunday school. I wasn’t sure if it was a backhanded compliment, but essentially a strong-willed child is defined as one who is stubborn and always has to get their way.
Realising I have a strong-willed kid, forced me to think about a new way of disciplining him. Perhaps you have similar dramas and struggle with the feeling that you’re always the bad cop.
Aha Parenting has a number of great articles on parenting strong-willed children, including how best to handle discipline when they do something wrong. Sam and I sat down with parenting expert Dr Laura Markham who shared some great insights and tips.
