“My father-in-law, each Christmas when we hand out the presents, always takes one or two gifts, and he hides them – puts them up in his cupboard – to unwrap later in the year,” Emma says. “I’ve always found this a little unusual, but it got me thinking, how many of us actually do this, also, in the spiritual.”
When we forget to go to God for the blessings he has promised us through His Son Jesus, says Emma, it is like leaving a present unwrapped under the Christmas tree, or hiding it away in a cupboard.
“Christmas represents God sending us His only Son, his greatest gift for us, his gift for redemption, for freedom,” she says.
“Psalm 100 says, ‘Bless the Lord, oh my soul, and forget not all of his benefits’. There are so many beneifts that the Bible talks about: freedom, grace, redemption, healing, freedom from depression, freedom from anxiety.
“Don’t leave the most important gift unwrapped. There is a beautiful gift of grace waiting for you under that Christmas tree. Make sure you unwrap it!”
