Like most organisations, Hope 103.2 has had to do things a little differently these past few months — and our Together in Hope June Appeal 2020 has possibly been our biggest challenge to date.
During a normal appeal, it’s all staff hands on deck in our dedicated Tally Room to take your calls and donations and hear your stories, supported by a roster of amazing volunteers, as well as team leaders, producers, tech and social media.
Our goals have remained the same: raising much-needed financial support, as we’re a community-funded media organisation, and to build real connections with our volunteers, listeners, readers and viewers.
The following is a glimpse into how your radio station has been trying to adapt to the new coronavirus restrictions and social distancing measures — ensuring the safety of all.
New behind-the-scenes updates will be added throughout the appeal, which ends at midnight on Tuesday 30 June
Tuesday 30 June — The Final Day
We will be here until midnight tonight taking your phone calls on 1300 36 1032 for your best gift to keep your Hope 103.2 on-air into the second half of 2020. The team would also love to hear your stories about what this radio station means to you, your family, friends, colleagues…? As community-funded media, we genuinely care how you, in our community, are feeling and how you’ve been travelling this year — particularly with all of the uncertainty and crazy events we didn’t see coming! So, please let us know or you can submit prayer request with our Hope & Prayer team who pray for our community daily. We would also love to hear how your prayers have been answered!
This afternoon, our signing-off duo for our #TogetherInHope ‘Yes or No’ Facebook game was Afternoons host Laura Bennett and her Appeal sidekick Dwayne, and they possibly managed to answer the most questions in the shortest time. We hope you enjoy!

Monday 29 June
We’ve seen an incredible amount of support in the past week as we get closer to the Tuesday 30 June, midnight cut off! Our team will be in the building until 9pm, tonight, to keep taking your tax-deductible gifts and for you to share your stories over the phone. (You can, of course, still support our Together in Hope June Appeal 2020 securely online 24/7.)
With only two days remaining of this year’s EOFY Appeal, we spoke with one of Hope 103.2’s Together in Hope June Appeal 2020 coordinators and Tally Room team leaders, Natalie, as she chats to Lucy about the challenges that we’ve had to overcome as listener-funded radio station and as a team including our volunteers.
You can also read how our volunteers are handling this year’s together-but-apart Appeal situation.
Friday 26 June
The challenges that a global pandemic threw our way for our regular on-air June Appeal actually pushed the team to try new ways to encourage financial support for your community-funded media. Today, was our inaugural 24-hour Facebook Live Appeal — taking our Facebook audience through the stories that have mattered to them so far this year, in order to share our Facebook mission of Heart, Joy and Faith with our Facebook community spanning across Sydney, Australia and overseas.
Our 24-hour Facebook Live Appeal ends at 6pm but you can watch — and join in — on our Facebook page at any time.
And, of course, our on-air Together in Hope June Appeal 2020 continues until midnight on Tuesday 30 June so get your best tax-deductible gift in before then to keep your Hope 103.2 going into the next half of the year — whatever that brings us!

If you don’t know much about these three — Katrina Roe (Mornings), Graeme Burrill (Nights) and Georgia (Weekends) — then you’re about to get to know them really well. They gave some unexpected answers to our social-distancing June Appeal game on Facebook, which is why Graeme and Georgia are particularly sitting far apart, they really do appreciate each other! And, one of them may have changed HIS answers once or twice ?

Some of the amazing stories that came through today:
“I want to thank you for giving hope to parents that have kids with anxiety and depression,” —anonymous
“I chose to support Hope today, because I love that they share the good news of Jesus to Sydney and beyond; and there is no better cause to support than the hope of Jesus,” —Jemima
“I reached out for prayers as my husband lost his job during COVID-19 and within one month he got a new opportunity. My deepest thanks for being on air, for praying for my family,” —anonymous
“It is a breathe of fresh air to have the freedom to listen to discussions and music surrounding our Christian Values, that is is readily available on mainstream radio. With young kids, its just easy to leave the radio on and for all of us to listen to messages of hope that are very relatable,” —Sanjay and Debby
The next announcing team on our Facebook Live ‘Yes OR No’ game chopping block was Breakfast with Sam & Duncan and producer Ally. It wasn’t just Hopeland who learned a few new things about this team — the boys and Ally learned a few things about each other that they may now wish had been left a mystery.
Duncan also came prepared with his social-distancing devices he’s been carrying everywhere around the building — it’s his first week back in the studios!
Tuesday 23 June
Our hard-working Tech team had to go from setting up one Tally Room to host our announcers, staff and volunteers on phones, and website support to multiple locations with A LOT of intricate connections.
This appeal, the socially distanced set-up Tally Room includes three staff members on phones (whereas our November Appeal was set up with eight phone desks) and support staff members, as well as the on-air team. The Tally Room is further supported by staff and volunteers securely set up in their homes, while more staff members can take phone donations in offices around the building.
As we wanted to make sure our volunteers and staff at home were part of the Appeal atmosphere, Zoom links have been set up so they can see into the Tally Room and the Tally Room can see them.
In another part of the Hope 103.2 studios, we decided to have a bit of fun with our special June Appeal Drive team. Regular Drive host Ray Kington was joined by content director Aaron, and Abby from community relations. We’ll be playing the Yes or No game with announcers throughout the appeal and we’d love you to join us on our Facebook page.
Friday 19 June
To comply with social distancing over the past few months, our only duo announcer team — Breakfast with Sam & Duncan — has been broadcasting with Sam in the Hope 103.2 studio, Duncan from his home and producer Ally keeping them in line outside of the studio, via Zoom.
