Nearly two years after giving birth to her firstborn Banjo, Hope Breakfast producer Ally Barnes has given birth to her very first podcast.

Mums’ Group is a project Ally has been working on for over a year. It sees her sitting down with other mothers to talk about what it means to be a mum through a Christian worldview. If you’re hoping that you’ll find expert commentary, this is not the podcast for you but you will find a whole lot more.

“It’s just everyday mums with a faith perspective sharing how they’re raising their little ones.”

“When I listened to loads of motherhood and parenting podcasts, they were all fantastic and gave me lots of advice, but none of them shared the same Christian worldview as I had,” Ally told Sam & Duncan on Hope Breakfast. “So I wanted to create something like that. There are no experts on the podcast — no magic formulas. But I think it was encouraging — it was for me — hearing other people’s experiences and their approaches, that I wasn’t the only one struggling…It’s just everyday mums with a faith perspective sharing how they’re raising their little ones.”

Ally says that the release of this podcast comes at a time when many mothers are craving community, as regular mothers’ groups can’t meet in person.

“COVID-19 gave me the motivation [to release it]…Not having access to a playgroup, or a mums’ group, I felt for people who didn’t have that support. So maybe having an audible Mums’ Group that can be listened to at 2:30 in the morning, when no one wants to visit your baby, might be helpful,’ she says.

Each episode covers a different topic including sleep, milk, the long wait for motherhood, miscarriage, and even returning to work. And, Ally assures us there’s plenty more on the way, including what season two might tackle — those tricky toddler years.
