How many thoughts do you think you have in a day? Some research says we have up to 6000 while others suggest it’s more like 70,000.
Whatever the volume, the way we think shapes so much of our lives, from what we think about our own identity and value to our beliefs about the world at large.
Mark Stephens is a senior research fellow at the Centre for Public Christianity (CPX) and, in the latest episode of UNDISTRACTED, he spoke about his book The End of Thinking, where he asked whether it’s possible to think better, and if we can we improve how we use our minds?
“Generally, any [mental] tendencies that we might have reflect whether we want to be lazy or courageous in our thinking,” Mark said.
“They reflect whether we tend to prioritise comfort or whether we tend to prioritise truth.
“We all know we can sometimes pick a particular opinion or a particular way of doing life because it just makes us feel more comfortable – but it may not be the one that actually matches up with what is really going on in the world.”
