Accompanying their film of the same name, Fading West documents the last year of the band’s life, how they’ve blended a love for people with a passion for music, and as lead singer Jon Foreman said to Billboard Magazine – their uncontained surf lifestyle:
“Our goal was always to be professional surfers – and I’m only partially kidding when I say that – and if nobody is gonna make a movie about us, let’s do it ourselves. We love surfing, so this was kind of a chance to introduce that to the rest of the world and maybe connect a few of the dots to the music as well… There’s a lot of special moments in the film.”
Coined by the band as “the film that we made about the soundtrack to the film”, Fading West is a project that gives fans a uniquely intimate look at Switchfoot, and the big issues they wrestle with on the road:
“Digging into [the] heavier questions about who we are added a lot of grounding. Being in this entertainment industry can really warp your view on a lot of things, and I think sometimes we need to go and detox from that.”
