“We Need This”: Dami Im on Faith, Anxiety and OneSydney
Key points:
- Dami Im will join a diverse line-up of artists at OneSydney, drawn by its vision of unity across denominations to worship Jesus together.
- She says the event comes at a vital time, offering peace and perspective in a world marked by anxiety, noise and uncertainty.
- As a mum, Dami hopes the night helps anchor people – especially younger generations – in lasting hope and faith.
There’s something disarming about Dami Im.
Yes, she’s one of Australia’s most celebrated vocalists – a Eurovision star with a powerhouse voice and a decade of unforgettable performances behind her – but when she joined Hope Breakfast what came through most wasn’t her accolades: it was her heart.
Speaking from a busy day in Brisbane, fresh from an early morning event (and not long after her Eurovision spokesperson duties at 3am), Dami reflected on music, life, and what matters most right now. And it’s that perspective that makes her involvement in the upcoming OneSydney gathering at the Sydney Opera House feel especially meaningful.
“I just thought that’s really special, I want to be a part of it,” – Dami Im on OneSydney
When Dami was invited to be part of OneSydney – a large-scale night of worship and unity on Sunday 14 June – her response was immediate.
“They said we’re bringing all the artists together to worship Jesus… and I just felt like there hasn’t been anything quite like this,” Dami shared with Hope Breakfast’s Danniebelle.
It wasn’t just the scale of the event, or even the iconic setting overlooking Sydney Harbour, it was the heart behind it.
“There’s all sorts of different artists, different genres and denominations, and we’re all coming together for one concert to praise God,” she said.

“I just thought that’s really special, I want to be a part of it.”
In a world that can feel increasingly divided, such unity stands out.
A moment to pause in a noisy world
Throughout the conversation, Dami returned to a theme many of us can relate to: the sense of noise, pressure and uncertainty shaping everyday life.
“It just feels a bit chaotic, there’s a lot of anxiety around everything,” she said candidly.
It’s a feeling that resonates far beyond headlines or social media feeds. For many, it’s the background hum of modern life – juggling work, family, expectations and an always-on stream of information.
And this is where OneSydney feels timely.
“I think people really need that right now… just finding hope and peace through connecting with the one who is in control,” Dami said.
Rather than offering quick fixes or easy answers, the night aims to create space to breathe, reflect and reconnect with something deeper.
A different side of Dami
For fans used to seeing Dami in concert halls or on tour (including her current jazz performances), this event offers something a bit different.
She’ll take to the stage during the 7pm session, leading praise songs – a shift from many of her usual performances.
“I don’t get a lot of opportunities like that so I was like, where do I start?” she laughed.
That sense of discovery, even for an artist of her calibre, adds something special to the night. It’s not just about polished performance; it’s about shared purpose.
A mum’s perspective on hope
Perhaps the most heartfelt moment came when Dami reflected on her role as a mum.
Raising two young boys in a rapidly changing world has shaped how she sees events like OneSydney – not just as concerts, but as opportunities to anchor the next generation.
“The generations are changing so quickly with technology, AI, just information overload,” she said.
It’s a reality many parents will recognise – trying to keep up while also wanting to give children something solid to hold onto.
For Dami, that foundation is clear.
“The only thing that we can hope on is God and the unchanging word,” she said.
Her hope for the night is simple but powerful: that people of all ages walk away with renewed perspective.
“I want the night to change our hearts… that the anxiety we carry can be quietened, and we just focus on God.”
An invitation to come together
At its core, OneSydney isn’t just about music, although the line-up is certainly something to look forward to. It’s about creating a shared moment across generations, backgrounds and walks of life.
Whether you’d describe yourself as someone of faith, curious, or simply in need of a pause from life’s busyness, Dami’s words offer a gentle invitation.
To step into a space of unity. To rediscover hope. To experience something bigger than ourselves.
As she put it so simply, yet so powerfully: “It’ll be nice for all of us to just have that moment to refocus”.
