Listen out for: Birds of Tokyo ‘Anchor’

Alternative rockers Birds of Tokyo are back with their new EP ‘Anchor’.
 

Having spent most of 2014 touring the US for the first time, the band have returned with a fresh perspective on their sound, and new intention behind the tunes.

“Our time in the U.S. was really good for us”, says drummer, Adam Weston, “…that year away really gave us a whole new lease on life. We learned a lot from the experience both as people and as musicians. Hopefully people will get a sense of that when they hear this EP.”

A brief 15 minute experience, the Anchor EP is a reflective collection songs, “inspired by the sort of clarity that only comes from being well removed from a situation”, say the group. 

The title track tells of a particularly poignant realisation:

 “Sometimes people need someone to hold them in place while they’re in troubled waters”, says lead singer Ian Kenny, “it can end up being ‘sink or swim’. We all need that type of support sometimes but we don’t always ask for it. What’s even worse is that we don’t always notice when someone else needs it. So Anchor is a song for all the times that we didn’t notice.”

The Perth natives inspire with this new project, offering something different for long-time fans, while introducing new ones to Birds of Tokyo’s signature lyrical approach.
