When the members of Hillsong Young & Free found out they’d been nominated for a Grammy award, they couldn’t quite believe it.

Frontman Aodhan King and guitarist Ben Tan were on a flight just landing when their text messages came through, while singer Laura Toggs was being congratulated by friends before she even heard the news.

In an interview on Hollywood Today Live days before the weekend Grammy Awards ceremony, Laura said they were “still waiting for someone to tell us that someone’s playing a joke on us”.

Their 2016 release Youth Revival was nominated for Best Contemporary Christian Music Album.

In the end, the Australian group were runners up to Hillary Scott & the Scott Family, who accepted the title for Love Remains at the February 12 awards night. Other nominees included Sons & Daughters, Crowder and Natalie Grant.

Hillsong UNITED kick off 2017 with new release

Lead singer Joel Houston told Gospel Music Association, that writing for the soundtrack was an honour.

“It’s something we have actually had little experience in,” he said. “We hope, as with everything we do, that people take away a portion of the greater message about Jesus.”
