When Major Chris Witts received a call from Hope’s founding father, Rev Vernon Turner, of what was then 2CBA – FM over 15 years ago, he thought he might receive the offer of doing a program on the station.

According to Chris, you could have “knocked him over with a feather” when Rev Turner asked him to consider managing the station.  With that role came a chance to present Morning Devotions and Chris Witts has been on the air at Hope 103.2 ever since.

In some ways, his involvement with Christian radio brought his life full circle.  Chris left school at 16 to start a career in radio with 2XL in Cooma, something he had wanted to do since he was 9.  While at 2XL, Chris says he had a faith of sorts, but it was through his friendship with a Salvation Army officer, who presented a regular segment in his radio show, that Chris really came to understand the gospel.

Although the church mainly consisted of eldery men and women, Chris noticed that they had a peace he didn’t have and that he wanted in his life.  So trusting God’s guidance, Chris left his radio career behind to focus on joining the Salvos full-time.

Chris continues to work with the Salvos today, but his volunteer ministry at Hope 103.2 is a reminder of God’s faithfulness to him.  The seed that was planted in him at such a young age is still bearing fruit today.

Chris acknowledges that not everybody could do what he does, but he loves presenting Morning Devotions and still sees it as the highlight of each week.  Many people have been touched by Chris’ ministry and we look forward to seeing God continue to work through Chris Witts and Morning Devotions.

Morning Devotions is heard on Hope 103.2 every day at 9:05am, right after the 9 o’clock news.
