Among them, on Tuesday night, was Chris Sebastian – an unsigned artist and brother of Guy, a show coach.
With the coaches’ backs to the stage, they have no way of knowing who is about to audition.
But when Chris sang the opening lines of Jealous by Labrinth, a knowing smile came across Guy’s face, and he joined Boy George, Delta Goodrem and Kelly Rowland in turning his chair to watch the rest of the near-flawless performance. After the song, Guy became emotional explaining to his fellow coaches that they were brothers; while the boys’ mum as well as Chris’s wife watched backstage.
Chris, who competed on the first season of The Voice nine years ago, had told his brother he was auditioning – but what Guy didn’t know, was when his brother would take the stage. After his successful audition he chose to be on Kelly Rowland’s team – and will go through to the next round of the show, which airs on Channel Nine.
An R&B, singer-songwriter style artist, Chris has spent years writing, performing and touring with artists like electro-due Peking Duck. One of his more recent releases was Soon – a song written after he and his wife lost a baby during pregnancy – which speaks of his faith, and his hope in heaven.
