About Vision Sisters
In homes, churches, workplaces and schools across Australia, thousands of Australian women, called Vision Sisters, are rolling up their sleeves to pack clean birthing kits for their sisters in the world’s poorest countries.
Vision Sisters founder, Mariska Meldrum, says that most women are motivated to hold a Vision Sisters clean birthing kit packing event after realising that they and their baby most likely wouldn’t have survived birth without access to the medical treatments available in Australia.
“Vision Sisters know we are blessed to give birth in Australia – and we want to do something practical to help our sisters have a clean and safe birth too,” says Meldrum.
“Most Australian mothers can’t leave their families and travel to the world’s poorest countries, but getting together and packing clean birthing kits is something that women of all ages can do to help.”
Each year Vision Sisters pick a project that will make a big impact on the lives of our sisters. This year, Vision Sisters around Australia are hoping to:
- Pack and send 60,000 clean birthing kits to our sisters in need and reduce the risk of infection during childbirth
- Raise $140,000 to help train community health workers to provide pre- and post-natal care to mothers and their babies
A clean birthing kit is so basic that it costs less than a cup of coffee. Yet it can help prevent infection and save lives. Each birthing kit contains six items needed to ensure a clean delivery.
World Vision works around the world to improve maternal and child healthcare. World Vision is partnering with the Birthing Kit Foundation (Australia) to provide clean birthing kits so that mothers and babies can avoid infection and survive childbirth.
