I loved fairy tales as a kid (in fact, I probably loved Cinderella an unhealthy amount) but the one gripe I had with them was how far removed from reality they were. I was nothing like Cinderella – there was no fairy godmother in my life or pumpkins turning into carriages.
However, children’s author Angela Buckingham is set to change the game of fairy tales with her new children’s book Powerful Princesses: 10 Untold Stories of History’s Boldest Heroines.
Angela spoke to Hope 103.2 about her favourite real-life princess – who helped a woman give birth in the desert while being pursued by two separate armies – why it’s important for kids to read brave stories and how a strong spiritual faith shaped the lives, and legacies, of many of these women.
“I really believe that stories about bravery help us to be brave,” Angela said of the importance of children reading courageous tales.
“The very act of growing up requires a strength that needs to be celebrated.”
Powerful Princesses is available now. Find out more about Angela Buckingham’s work here and listen to the full chat with Georgia Free in the player above.
