RATED: M for coarse language and mature themes.
AUDIENCE: Older teens and up. Fans of Apple products. Lovers of The West Wing and The Social Network.
WHAT’S GOOD: Michael Fassbender’s charismatic performance as the obsessive “genius”. Screenwriter Aaron Sorkin (The West Wing, The Social Network) brings his trademark dialogue and wit to shape an artistic impression of Jobs, rather than deliver a straightforward biopic.
WHAT’S NOT: Sorkin and director Danny Boyle are happy to manipulate events and facts from Jobs’ life, to tell their story. Yes, they make stuff up or misrepresent some things. Also, it can be a bit tiring and slightly silly, to see Jobs have huge personal battles an hour before EVERY product launch.
SPIRITUALLY SPEAKING: Plenty of stuff. Getting some sense of what Steve Jobs was like and what he achieved, forces viewers to consider what price we should pay for success. Is it worth trashing relationships, to pursue our personal dreams? And if you are a genius, does that mean you must be a jerk as well?
