Fantastic Beasts And Where To Find Them: 60 Second Movie Review

Arriving in New York for a brief stopover, he might have come and gone without incident … were it not for a No-Maj (American for Muggle) named Jacob (Dan Fogler), a misplaced magical case, and the escape of some of Newt’s fantastic beasts, which could spell trouble for both the wizarding and No-Maj worlds.

AUDIENCE: Anyone who appreciated the first Harry Potter franchise will enjoy Fantastic Beasts And Where To Find Them

WHAT’S GOOD: More magic, more wonderful creatures. If you’re a Harry Potter fan, you can look forward to another ten years of films. This, plus the next four sequels are already being slated for production.

WHAT’S NOT: If you’re not a Harry Potter fan, bunker down. Even if you are, the focus on the American side of the wizarding world has come with some obvious dumbing down of the franchise. Apparently, the word ‘Muggle’ was too tough to explain people without wizarding skills; now they’re the more obvious ‘No-Maj’.

SPIRITUALLY SPEAKING: All four characters are outsiders, and part of the journey of the film is each of them coming into themselves … discovering their identities and being at peace with that. I think this is going to be a good thing to put in front of Christian kids, especially in the decade to come, because they are going to face an increasing divide between what their parents teach them at home and what they’re told is true in school, by their friends, and the media in general.
