A Song for the Road by Kathleen Basi is a beautiful novel about love, forgiveness and learning to live freely.
The first line of the book is a cracker: “On her 38th birthday, Miriam Tedesco received flowers from a ghost”.
One year after the death of her husband and teenagers, Miriam Tedesco is struggling to hold it together. When she receives a bunch of flowers from her dead husband on their wedding anniversary, she understandably unravels. Miriam sets off on a musical pilgrimage with her husband’s guitar, her daughter’s cello and her son’s unfinished piano sonata to grieve her family and face up to her choices.
While the plot may sound heavy, it’s actually a very hopeful book and Miriam’s authentic Catholic faith is a natural part of the story.
It was reviewed in Hope Book Club Ep 34: Tales of Love and Loss.
In this bonus episode of the Hope Book Club, Katrina Roe speaks to author Kathleen Basi about her novel, her faith and her love of music.
