Listen to any productivity podcast or “success seminar” and it’s likely that curbing your screen time and watching less TV will come up as a way to live a more effective, fruitful life.

Though, the entertainment industry hugely shapes our cultural landscape, and it’s the stories we see on screen that can affect what we believe and value.

So how do we balance our consumption while also embracing the potential of the industry’s ability to entertain and drive change?

Ben Field is the Head of Film and Television at Hillsong Church and oversees the Hillsong Channel, which has been broadcasting 24/7 since its 2016 launch. The channel is available to over 66 million homes in the US and another 164 million potential households around the globe, with content that’s been watched by people from over 180 countries.

In this episode of the Power Lunch podcast, Ben talks about why stories are so powerful and who holds the keys to our cultural future.

Considering the role of inspirational and redemptive storylines, Ben said, “if we tell stories well, we can shape the narrative of history”.
