Celebrated Australian singer Marina Prior will be the feature guest at a fundraiser to support people with cancer – hosted by Pastor Darlene Zschech and her Central Coast church, HopeUC.

The fundraising dinner, “Night of Hope“, on Wednesday, October 23, will raise funds for the cancer charities CoastCanCare Wellness Program, and the “1000 Meals Project”.

Darlene Zschech is well known for her compassion for those with cancer, having gone through her own very public battle with cancer.  The “1000 Meals Project”, an initiative of her church, Hope UC, provides nutritious, freshly prepared, home-cooked meals to families dealing with a cancer diagnosis.

Co-ordinator of the Night of Hope, Wendy Folland, said the church is passionate about this cause because so many people are affected – with close to 145,000 new cases diagnosed each year.

“Unfortunately most of us will know someone who has faced cancer,” Wendy said. “A diagnosis can be devastating and the impact of cancer treatments can affect both quality of life and the ability to complete day to day tasks.

“When Pastor Darlene was diagnosed with breast cancer in 2013, her world changed and she immediately underwent surgery, radiotherapy and chemotherapy. It was a very confronting time, but she was fortunate to have the support of family friends and her church community to help navigate this difficult season.

“However, recognising not everyone has this support for such times, she became a passionate advocate in providing practical help for those facing cancer.”

Tickets to the Night of Hope dinner are $50 and area available until October 18. Register or find out more at https://hopeuc.com/au/events/nightofhope/.
