Good morning.

All this week, at this time, each weekday morning, we’re asking the question, what is truth?

At some point in your life you need to ask the ultimate questions of life, and this is one of the big ones. What is ultimate truth?

We’re not just talking about statements of true facts. We’re talking about the foundations you build your life on. What are the life principles that you have to follow if you want your life to work, right?

Do you feel like right now your life is not working right and you cannot figure out why you’re looking for answers and you’re not finding answers? Well, in all likelihood, it goes back to these foundational life truths that your life has to follow to work properly.

We looked at this question. What is truth? We looked at Jesus’ statement. I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to God the Father except through me. And we’ve been asking this question this week.

What are the foundations I’m building my life on?

I don’t get to decide everything about what is true. Yes, I decide what I believe, but that doesn’t change what is true, right? So what are the foundational truths? Well, when it comes to finding the deep life truths that shape our lives. The Bible talks to this.

Jesus says to his followers, right when he’s talking about the significance of how they’re going to live their lives, he’s about to leave this world, and he says,

I’m praying for you, and I’m praying to God the Father that He will sanctify you, that is, make you so different from the people around you in the world who don’t have this truth, that he will sanctify you in the truth. And then he says to the Father, Your word is truth.

I want to say to you that when you read through the accounts of Jesus’s life in the Bible, you will notice that he is constantly quoting from the Bible. Now there’s a lot of the Bible that wasn’t written yet. We call it the New Testament. It’s everything from Jesus onward.

But there was a lot of the Bible that was in place for hundreds of years – more than a 1000 years – before Jesus came to the earth, and we call that the Old Testament. Jesus is constantly quoting from the Bible.

And here he says to God the Father, Your word is truth. He’s talking about the Bible. He’s constantly quoting from it in his ministry. It’s the foundation of his truth statements, and he wants you to see that truth is found there in the Bible.

When he came, he said, My whole reason for coming is to bear witness to the truth, and that forms the basis for the New Testament of the Bible.

In Psalm 119, that whole Psalm that is more than 150 verses long is all focused on God’s word and its impact on your life.

In that Psalm, the psalmist writes to God, Consider how I love your precepts. Precepts are these deep truths found in God’s word. He goes on, Give me life according to your steadfast love.

The sum, you know, the sum of something is when you add up all the numbers, the sum of it all is the total, and the psalmist writes, the sum of your word is truth. What a great statement about the Bible. The sum of your word is truth, and every one of your righteous rules endures forever.

Well, don’t you want to build your life on the rules of life, the principles of life that are the way God has designed life to work? If you fight against them and try to set up alternate rules, you’re just in for disaster and pain and sorrow in your life. Go to God, ask the big questions. Find the answers in the Bible. Build your life on the truth.
