He came to his own people, and even they rejected him. But to all who believed him and accepted him, he gave the right to become children of God. They are reborn—not with a physical birth resulting from human passion or plan, but a birth that comes from God.
So the Word became human and made his home among us. He was full of unfailing love and faithfulness. And we have seen his glory, the glory of the Father’s one and only Son. (NLT)
A story was told of a very rich young widower who had a large house and servants to do his bidding. But his greatest possession was his young son. One day as he worked in his office, giving instructions to his employees as to the jobs they had to so, he heard his son’s cry of distress from outside in the garden.
The father immediately left his desk and went to the aid of his son who had fallen while climbing a tree. He didn’t send a servant; he didn’t delegate the job to an employee. Helping and comforting his son was a job for him alone. Only his presence would do.
When God saw us in big trouble, alienated from him by our stubborn self-centredness, he came in person. He didn’t form an angelic working party, didn’t call for a discussion paper, didn’t convene a cosmic committee. This was a problem he had to fix in person.
And so Jesus came. Jesus is God spelling himself out in a language we humans can understand. He is God’s one-man rescue mission for lost humankind. He became like us so we could journey towards becoming like him.
When it came to saving the world, God knew that if you want a job done properly, best do it yourself.
Blessings
David
