Here with you once again as we are each weekday morning at this time to just start our day together the best way talking to God, taking time with Him, listening to Him.
We’ve been looking at Psalm 119 and finally we come to the last section of this Psalm. Really this one Psalm is quite a lot longer than a lot of books in the Bible, and it’s so full of an emphasis on God’s Word and its place in our lives.
I hope you’ve been blessed by it as much as I have. We come now to verse 169. The psalmist says:
Let my cry come before You, O Lord. Give me understanding according to your word.
Let my supplication come before you. Deliver me according to your word.
Let my lips utter praise because you teach me your statutes.
Let my tongue sing of your word, for all your commandments are righteousness.

Let your hand be ready to help me, for I have chosen your precepts. I long for your salvation, O Lord, and your law is my delight. Let my soul live so that it may praise you.
And let your ordinances help me. I have gone astray like a lost sheep. Seek your servant, for I do not forget your commandments.
Here again the psalmist is pointing us back to God’s Word.
I love that line in verse 175. Let my soul live that it may praise you.
I think that would be a great life verse to adopt for yourself.
Let my soul live that it may praise you.
Why do you live?
I remember my wife and I, before we had kids, when we were living in America, stayed with a family that was working in a church in Iowa, and they were good friends of ours. They had little children and at the family mealtime each evening, their kids, as soon as they’d finished the prayer and said amen, all the kids would raise their hands up in the air and say, the reason I’m alive is to please and praise the Lord.
What a great way to think about life. The reason I’m alive is to please and praise the Lord. That’s why you are alive. Can you make it the prayer of your life?
Let my soul live that it may praise you. What can you do today, to bring honour and glory to God?
If your life has wandered from that purpose, remember the next verse. I have gone astray like a lost sheep. Seek your servant, for I do not forget your commandments. Let my soul live that it may praise you and let your ordinances help me.
God will help you, and the greatest help you will find in your desire to please and praise God is in His Word.
His Word is a lamp to your feet and a light to your path.
