Good morning. We’re looking at Psalm 119 this week, and today we want to look at verses 9 to 16. It says,
How can a young man keep his way pure? By keeping it according to your word.
With all my heart I have sought you. Do not let me wander from your commandments.
Your word I have treasured in my heart that I may not sin against you.
Blessed are You, O Lord. Teach me your statutes.
With my lips I have told of all the ordinances of your mouth. I have rejoiced in the way of your testimonies as much as in all riches.
I will meditate on your precepts and regard your ways. I shall delight in your statutes. I shall not forget your word.

Those first few verses really tell the emphasis of this section. How can a young man keep his way pure by keeping it according to your Word. Your word, I have treasured in my heart that I may not sin against you.
The fact is it is impossible to live a godly life without soaking your mind in God’s word. It’s just not possible.
You know, when you came to the place of faith in your life and you put your trust in what God had done for you through the death of Jesus, to pay for your sins, at that moment, God forgave you.
You know what God did in your life at that moment went much more than simply forgiveness. God also changed your basic nature. He gave you a new heart, a new nature, that is, there is something in you now that longs to live a pure life. You want to please God.
But the problem is how can we live that pure life when our sin nature keeps on tempting us so strongly.
And not only our own sinful nature, but we’re surrounded by a sinful world that presses in on us every time we turn on the TV. It’s constantly trying to give us its values and its way of looking at life.
Even going to work presents struggles if the people we work with are worldly.
Well, how can you live for God in that kind of a situation?
What God is saying to us in this passage is that there’s only one way you’ll be able to live for Him in the middle of all these factors, and that one way is to treasure God’s word.
You need to develop a love for God’s word. You need to build your life around it. There is no other way to resist the world’s pressure. You are transformed by the renewing of your mind.
And God wants to renew your mind today.
Don’t miss the opportunity to grow in Christ, to become more Christ-like, even in the midst of worldly pressures.
By taking some time today and just soaking in God’s word.
