Good morning. I’m John North here to help you start your day right as we take some time with God together.

You know, that’s really what fellowship is between Christians. It’s not just spending time together, but it’s sharing in each other’s relationship with God, and that’s what we do each morning, even though I don’t know most of you. I fellowship with you as we share together in each other’s walk with God, taking time together to read the Bible, to talk about it, to say to God, what are you saying to us.

We’re looking at Psalm 119 this week, and today we come to verse 129. The psalmist says:

Your testimonies, God, are wonderful. Therefore, my soul observes them. The unfolding of your words gives light. It gives understanding to the simple.

I opened my mouth wide and panted, for I longed for your commandments. Turn to me and be gracious to me after your manner with those who love your name.

Establish my footsteps in your word and do not let any iniquity have dominion over me. Redeem me from the oppression of man that I may keep your precepts. Make your face shine upon your servant and teach me your statutes. My eyes shed streams of water because they do not keep your law.

Verse 30. The unfolding of your words gives light. It gives understanding to the simple.

I have to say when I read this verse in preparing these radio spots, I printed it out and put it on my door in my office. The unfolding of your words gives light. It gives understanding to the simple.

Who is it that unfolds God’s words to us to give us light and understanding? It’s the Holy Spirit.

He is the one who unfolds God’s words to us throughout our lives. The Holy Spirit uses preachers, friends, Bible teachers, your own mind as you read the Bible. Other Christian books that cast your focus on the Bible.

Even his own illumination in your heart, helping you to understand things, all of these things the Holy Spirit uses to open your understanding more and more to His truth that He is giving you in the Bible.

You know, that takes time.

The more you’re exposed to these things, the more opportunity the Holy Spirit has to unfold the truth in His Word, to give you light and understanding.

That’s why a young Christian, a person who’s just come to faith in Jesus Christ, can love God and be very close to Him, but it takes time to attain maturity, time listening to God.
