Good morning.
All this week we’re taking just a few minutes each morning to talk about what it means to be pleasing to God in our lives.
And you know, God is so pleasing to us, isn’t he? How we love going to church, listening to the worship, our own hearts joining in with that worship, seeing our friends who love God too, and being encouraged by our time with them, hearing the Bible being taught. It’s so great and in our daily times with God, when we open the Bible and God is speaking to us in our lives, we love that sense that God is reaching down to us, that He’s connecting with us on that personal level.
When we pray and we see God answering our prayers, we see the reality of God and His involvement in our lives when we’re in a desperate situation and everything seems to have gone dark, there’s nowhere we can turn but to God and we hold on to God. And we find God takes us through those hard times.
Man, God is so pleasant to us, isn’t he? He is the joy of our lives.
And on the other side of that we have to ask the question, am I pleasing to God?
When I spend time with God, does God go away from that saying? I loved my time with John. I loved my time with — and put your own name in there.
When you come to the end of your day and how you’ve lived your day, does God say, I so enjoyed that?
You see what I mean? We’re in a relationship with God. God is constantly reaching out to us in ways that strengthen our lives, that make our lives so much better, and he also is wanting a pleasing relationship with us. Listen to what Paul prays for the Colossians in the New Testament of the Bible in the Book of Colossians chapter 1, starting in verse 9.

Paul says to the Colossians, and so from the day we heard, we have not ceased to pray for you, asking, Listen what he prays, that you may be filled with the knowledge of God’s will in all spiritual wisdom and understanding. Listen. So as to walk and walk means live how you live, so as to walk in a manner worthy of the Lord, fully pleasing to Him, bearing fruit in every good work and increasing in the knowledge of God.
Well, he wants them to be filled with the knowledge of God’s will. Well, where do we find out what God wants for our lives, how God wants us to live, how God wants to work in us and through us?
Where do we get that knowledge? It’s from the Bible, right? God’s revelation of Himself to us.
That’s where we get it. Why do you study the Bible, read the Bible, learn the Bible, listen to the Bible being taught, memorize key verses in the Bible? You study the Bible that is being filled with the knowledge of His will to please God. So as to walk, so as to live, actually live, not just mouth words of worship or pray, but to actually live in a manner worthy of the Lord.
Living in a way that shows how much you love God, fully pleasing to Him.
And what does he say? When you please God, you’re going to bear fruit in every good work, of course, because you’re going to be saying yes to God in your life. What else does it mean? It means that you increase in the knowledge of God.
Walk in a manner worthy of the Lord, fully pleasing to him, bearing fruit in every good work and increasing in the knowledge of God. Do you know something? If you make it your goal to please God in everything, you’re going to get to know God so much better because of course God’s going to get close to those who are pleasing to Him.
