This year’s Christmas at the Cathedral celebration is focused on The Twelve Days of Christmas, a way to mark Twelvetide, the festive Christian season celebrating the birth of Jesus.
With market stalls, food options, face painting and activities available as well as live musical acts, the event is open to everyone.
Catholic Archbishop of Sydney, Most Rev. Anthony Fisher OP says he hopes the celebrations will offer a reprieve for those battling the rising cost of living pressures.
“I think for every human being, you need periodically a shot in the arm and some encouragement, especially if there are some bleak things happening in your world,” he says. “Here is a way you can celebrate Christmas with your children, give them a wonderful night out and it’s not going to cost you.”
The Cathedral will be open to the public each night until 10pm, with a holy nativity scene, traditional Christmas displays, a huge (real!) Christmas tree and symbolic displays explaining the Biblical story of Christmas and the origins of the Twelve Days of Christmas.
