A well known speaker started off his seminar by holding up a $50 note. In the room of 200,he asked,”Who would like this $50 note?” Hands started going up. He said,”I am going to give this $50 to one of you but first, let me do this.” He proceeded to crumple the dollar note up. He then asked,”Who still wants it?” Still the hands were up in the air. “Well,” he replied,”What if I do this?” And he dropped it on the ground and started to grind it into the floor with his shoe. He picked it up,now crumpled and dirty. “Now who still wants it?” Still the hands went into the air. “My friends, you have all learned a very valuable lesson. No matter what I did to the money, you still wanted it because it did not decrease in value.” It was still worth $50. Many times in our lives,we are dropped, crumpled, and ground into the dirt by the decisions we make and the circumstances that come our way. We feel as though we are worthless. But no matter what has happened or what will happen, you will never lose your value: dirty or clean, crumpled or finely creased, you are still priceless to those who love you.
The worth of our lives comes not in what we do or who we know, but by WHO WE ARE.
Jesus values each person. “Look at the birds of the air, that they do not sow, neither do they reap, nor gather in barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not worth much more than they?” (Matthew 6:26) “Are not two sparrows sold for a cent? And yet not one of them will fall to the ground and from the will of your Father. But the very hairs of your head are numbered. Therefore,do not fear; you are of more value than many sparrows. (Matthew 10:29-31). “What do you think? If any man has a hundred sheep, and one of them has gone does he not leave the ninety-nine on the mountains and go and search for the one straying? And if it turns out that he finds it,truly I say to you,he rejoices over it more than over the ninety-nine which have not gone astray. Thus it is not the will of your Father in heaven that one of these little ones perish. (Matthew 18:12). What woman,if she has ten silver coins and loses one coin, does not light a lamp and sweep the house and search carefully until she finds it? And when she has found it,she calls together her friends and neighbours, saying ‘Rejoice with me for I have found that which I had lost!’ In the same way,I tell you,”there is joy in the presence of the angels and God over one sinner who repents.”
There are a lot of people today who want to know they are valued, and yet don’t know what life is all about. . they ask “what is the secret of life?” I sense that many want to know what makes life meaningful. And it seems everyone has an opinion. A few years ago a pop song had the lyrics “For everything there is a season, turn, turn, turn, and a time for every purpose under heaven”. Actually, the Bible said it first in Ecclesiastes in the Old Testament. The writer ends up saying everything has its place in the grand scheme of things. There is a time and purpose for everything under Heaven. Everything we have is a gift from God,both the good and bad.
It’s so important to know that God loves and values you, just because of who you are. Here are some of the words of Jesus.
Matthew 6:26
Matthew 10:29-31
Matthew 18:12
The secret to life is know Jesus as Lord and Saviour. He said “I came that you may have life and have it abundantly”. Jesus is the one who can take care of our lives and make them meaningful. We can place our faith and trust in Jesus, because it makes sense. God created you and knows all about you. I believe Jesus is God in the flesh, and since a good God would not mislead you,it makes sense to put your trust in Him.
