Listen: Natasha Moore and Katrina Roe in Hope Book Club, Episode 13.

It’s the crime fiction edition of the Hope Book Club!

In this episode Natasha Moore and Katrina Roe sink their teeth into:

  • The Three Evangelists by Fred Vargas
  • Dorothy Sayers Lord Peter Wimsey series
  • The Ruin by Dervla McTiernan

And they share the long-term book series they have stuck with for years!

In The Three Evangelists by Fred Vargas a Greek opera singer living in Paris wakes up one morning to discover that a tree has been planted in her back garden overnight.  Unnerved, she turns to her neighbours for help – an ex-cop and three historians – Mathias, Marc and Lucien – known as the three evangelists.  A few weeks later the opera singer herself disappears, leaving The Three Evangelists to investigate.

Dorothy Sayers’ Lord Peter Wimsey series – Fans of Agatha Christie might like to acquaint themselves with Dorothy Sayers – a less famous, but equally accomplished author in the genre of crime fiction. Sayers was best known for her Lord Peter Wimsey detective series. Lord Peter Wimsey is a gentleman detective, suffering from PTSD, who finds himself dragged reluctantly into murder mysteries.

And in The Ruin by Dervla McTiernan, Irish detective Cormack Riley is about to reopen the case that took him 20 years to forget!  As a rookie cop, Detective Riley discovered the body of Hilaria Blake in her crumbling home after a suspected overdose.  But it was the two neglected children left behind he couldn’t forget.  And now, twenty years later, one of them has turned up dead.
