If you were with me yesterday morning, I spoke about the idea of change. There’s just so much change happening. One of the things that is stable, that doesn’t change is God’s love. God’s love never changes.

Trust God Amidst Change Pt. 1 — Morning Devotions

And in Jeremiah 31:3, we read this, God’s word says I have loved you with an everlasting love. In other words, you and I were created as objects of God’s love. We were created to be loved by God. And the question is do you want to know why you’re here on earth? You were created to be loved by God. So that’s a tremendous thing. The love of God is continuous, it’s consistent.

And the Bible actually tells me that God is always unchanging in his love toward us. And that’s great news. So that means that God loves me when I feel it and he loves me when I don’t feel like it. So when I’m close to him or when something else happens, it’s not based on my performance. His love is based on his character. It’s consistent. It’s everlasting, no matter what happens to you this year or even tomorrow, there is one thing that you can be sure of. And that is that God is not going to stop loving you. In Psalm 119 verse 159, that’s a long psalm. But it says there in the verse, your love never changes.

So the point is this, we can get into trouble when we doubt God’s love. If we’re looking for stability, we certainly need to know that God’s love is never going to change. The other thing I want to say too today is that God’s word will never change. The Bible actually explains itself by saying the grass withers, the flowers fade, but the word of our God shall stand forever. So the word of God is enduring, eternal. It never sort of fades away. It doesn’t get stale, it doesn’t sort of go out of date. Heaven and earth will pass away, Jesus said, but My Word will never pass away.

When the American astronaut Alan Shepherd was getting ready to go up into space for the very first time. A reporter actually said to him, what are you depending on in this flight? Well, he said, I’m depending upon the fact that God’s laws will not change. And I think that’s a great answer.

In the same way, God has established, some moral and spiritual laws for our world. They good laws. And if you and I ignore those laws, the spiritual laws, we don’t break them so much as they break us, we get hurt. And if I ignore God’s laws, I will actually hurt myself. So God says, I want you to listen to my word. It was like, the day Jesus actually said, everyone who hears the words of mine and puts them into practice. That person is like a wise man who built his house on a rock. It’s a, a really a good story because he’s saying, Jesus is saying, if you want to have a stable home, for example, you’ve got to build it on an unchanging, sure foundation – on the rock.

And so it’s true for our life. If we want to build our life in a way that’s solid and significant that can handle the stresses of our century and the changes that are happening, you’d better build it on the truth of God’s word, the Bible because that is bedrock. It’s not going to change. Opinion could change. The psychology books are going to change. People will tell you all sorts of things, but God’s Word is there. You know, it’s true too that God’s purpose for my life is not going to change.

1 Samuel 15:29 for example, God is not a man. He doesn’t change his mind. That’s there in 1 Samuel 15:29. God is not a man. He doesn’t change his mind. I’m glad about that. You know, God has a plan for you. You were made for a reason. So God’s purpose doesn’t change. Have you ever noticed that in day to day life that your plans often change.

When you can’t see the future, you don’t have foresight. You don’t have that perspective. None of us really knows what’s going to happen tomorrow. But contrast that with God, our eternal God. God will never change his plans because he is all knowing. He’s omniscient. He’s all powerful. God never actually has to change his plans. He already knows what’s going to happen. So he has that power to do whatever he wants to do.

He doesn’t ever have to change the plan. So, isn’t it marvelous to know that God’s plan does not change.

Let’s Pray

Heavenly Father, these are marvelous thoughts for us to think about. Thank you. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
