Listen: Lucy Durack chats to Katrina Roe

If your family has a soft spot for Shrek (don’t we all?) then you’ll love this: after years on Broadway, on London’s West End and touring the USA, Shrek – The Musical, is coming to Australia this summer.
Based closely on the first movie, Shrek – The Musical is a fractured fairytale about a delightfully unconventional ogre on a mission to save a Princess. But it doesn’t quite play out the way you might expect.
The Sydney musical has a big-name cast with Ben Mingay as Shrek, Todd McKenney as Lord Farquuad, and Lucy Durack playing Princess Fiona.
The actor known for playing Glinda the Good Witch opposite Gemma Rix in Wicked, will now be turning green herself—as the ogre Princess in Shrek.
For Durack, it’s been a big year having given birth to her second child after completing a season as a judge on Australia’s Got Talent earlier this year.
Incredibly, while she gave birth only seven weeks ago, Durack is embracing the challenge of some fairly demanding tap-dancing sequences, after being relatively inactive during Australia’s Got Talent. Chatting to Hope Mornings, she said it feels good to be rehearsing again.
She’s also loving working on such a family-friendly show at this stage of her career, and is looking forward to bringing bub onto the set.
For a chance to win a double pass to see Lucy Durack playing Princess Fiona in the new production of Shrek – The Musical, just listen to Hope Mornings all this week.
The musical is playing at Sydney’s Lyric Theatre in January 2020. Find out more at ShrektheMusical.com.au.
