Sydney, You Broke A World Record!

The stunt was part of the Hope 103.2 Blanket Appeal for Parramatta Mission, in which listeners donated hundreds of blankets to help Sydney’s homeless.

Dan, of the radio station’s breakfast duo Dan & Dwayne, was buried in 50 blankets to draw attention to the cause.

The exercise was all the more entertaining given Dan has claustrophobia as “my brother used to smother me in blankets”.

They broke the record reaching 50, according to Dwayne’s commentary. A close watch of the video reveals the number is closer to 52. The offical Record Setter website entry claims the number was 47. Either way, it’s a lot.

When Dan was told he had broken the world record, he said, “I actually don’t care, I just want to come out from the blankets now, if that’s OK.”

“Can you please get me out? I’m not OK. I want my mum. I don’t like it.”

So What Was The Previous Record?

The previous world record for blankets on a person, according to recordsetter.com, was 42 – set by teenager Kurt Maiser of Holden, Massachusetts, USA on January 1, 2015.

The video shows Kurt lying on the ground as his dad and mum Katya placing the blankets on top of him.

“Kurt wanted to beat the existing Guinness Book of World Records for most number of blankets piled on top of a person,” says Katya under her Youtube video. She continues, “A Google search gave us that number at 15. Here we are with 43. Enjoy.”
