Bauwa’s future became very uncertain, when a cataract started to develop in his eye, making it increasingly hard for him to see. And unlike George Clooney, he’s one of the millions of people in the world who survive on just enough income to live day to day.
Normally, it would be impossible for Bauwa to access health care like eye surgery. The thought of losing his sight was frightening; it could threaten his ability to survive.
But thanks to the work of CBM and its generous supporters, Bauwa was this week able to have surgery and have his cataract removed. Here he is (below), anxiously waiting alongside our other friends, twin sisters Riya and Nazman, for his surgery.
Hope 103.2’s breakfast team Sam and Duncan and their producer Ally spent time with Bauwa this week as he prepared for his operation, and again after he had his eye patches taken off.
Bauwa’s gratitude was tangible. Many times he expressed his thanks to everyone who has made the gift of sight possible for him.
