Majok Tulba was born in South Sudan and came to Australia in 2001 at the age of 16. In between he lived in refugee camps.
His first novel, Beneath the Darkening Sky, won the 2014 Kathleen Mitchell Award. It was also shortlisted for the Dylan Thomas Prize, the Commonwealth Book Prize, and a New South Wales Premier’s Award.
Majok Tulba was named one of the Sydney Morning Herald‘s Best Young Novelists of the Year in 2013, and he is also the recipient of a New South Wales Premier’s CAL Literary Centre Fellowship.
When Elephants Fight is a coming-of-age novel based on Majok Tulba’s experiences in a Sudanese refugee camp. It is a compelling second novel from Tulba and demonstrates the immense power of hope.
