Listen: Judy Moore from World Vision in conversation with Stephen O’Doherty.

The number of people from South Sudan living as refugees in Uganda has topped the one million mark.

That’s bigger than most towns and many cities in Australia. It is twice the population of Tasmania.

They are not seeking asylum – they are refugees who have fled their homes because of the terrible and prolonged civil war in South Sudan.

When it is safe, they will go home, but that’s not looking like anytime soon – the war has been raging for 3 years.

However unlike the tent cities we are all too used to seeing in Europe or Jordan, these South Sudanese families are settling with Ugandan extended families.

Remarkably, that is despite traditional enmity between the two countries.

Judy Moore has worked in humanitarian disaster relief for World Vision for nearly 30 years. Despite the dreadful tragedy of the ongoing civil war, Judy sees the love of God at work as they are received with hospitality.
