“Councils can play a significant role in coordinating causes to help their local communities,” according to Cumberland Council Deputy Mayor Suman Saha.

Mr Saha shared with Hope Breakfast duo Ally & Brendan about the new Cumberland Community Pantry they aim to open in early 2023. Local organisations and individuals are able to join forces with the council to bring this project to life, which will provide food and pantry items for people struggling amidst the rising cost of living.

Deputy Mayor Suman Saha said he moved the motion to establish the pantry because food price hikes were a problem for many of his constituents.

“We’re not keeping note of who is coming for help, we don’t want any barrier for people coming to get help” Mr Saha said.
