As a psychiatrist, Richard sees a lot of pain, but he believes that hope can change everything.
Key points:
- “Hope 103.2 is a platform for hope,” Richard said.
- Richard’s kids grew up listening to Hope 103.2.
- “If our society can take on the message of hope, I firmly believe that the mental health well-being of our population will significantly improve,” Richard said.
“In my daily practice, I see a lot of negative things,” Richard told Hope 103.2.
“Especially after COVID, I can see a lot of increase [in the] amount of people who have depression, anxiety.”
As well as the aftereffects of COVID and lockdown, Richard says the economic downturn, global climate and news coverage of war are having a huge impact on mental health.
“That’s why I see more and more people [who are] currently struggling to cope and they struggle to seek the positive message about hope,” he said.
“Our life is not a smooth journey.
“Hope 103.2 is a platform for hope.”
“Life can sometimes be beautiful and life can sometimes be tough,” Richard said and explained that it sometimes helps to see hope as the steering wheel of a bus.
“If you let go of hope, your bus will be sidetracked.”

Whether we’re driving in rough weather or on a bumpy road, the bus will stay on track, as long as there is hope. And even if we deviate from the course, we can always bring the bus back on course, by holding onto hope.
“This hope has become a navigator in our life and no matter how difficult it is, you can still see that glint of hope,” he said.
“Our kids grew up with Hope 103.2.”
“Hope 103.2 is a platform for hope, and it’s a platform of positive message, through God to everyone.
“It’s not just for those who believe in God, it’s actually for [a diverse] audience.”
While Hope 103.2 is something that helps Richard hold onto hope, after a difficult day at work, his children – he says – are even more passionate about the station than he is!
“Actually, they are more loyal than me,” he said.
“Sometimes I’ve been listening to ABC and have forgotten to tune it back to Hope 103.2.
“If our society can take on the message of hope, I firmly believe that the mental health well-being of our population will significantly improve.”
“So, I pick up my kids and once they get into the car, they just question why [I’m] not listening to Hope 103.2!”
“We have a small radio at home and so every now and then when we’re having dinner, we have Hope 103.2 in the background.
“And so it actually becomes part of your life.
“In the last almost 10 years, it’s been part of our life.
“Our kids grew up with Hope 103.2.”
“This important message [is going out] on a daily basis to everyone, to the whole city, to influence everyone.
“I would say if the majority of people in our society can take on this message, I firmly believe that the mental health well-being of our population will significantly improve.”
