Listen: Religious Freedom Inquiry Chair Phillip Ruddock in conversation with Stephen O’Doherty

Same sex marriage legislation is certain to pass through the Parliament by the end of the 2017. It is increasingly likely that amendments to strengthen religious freedom will not be agreed to.

However the issue will not be forgotten – the federal government has established an expert panel to examine Australia’s religious freedom framework and report by March 2018.

The Chairman of the panel is former Attorney General and Minister for Immigration Phillip Ruddock.

Currently the Mayor of Hornsby,  when he retired from the Parliament at the last election he was the second longest serving MP in the history of the federal Parliament. He serves as a Human Rights Envoy for Australia.

He spoke with Open House about the marriage issue, his Christian faith and human rights in Australia.
