Terror attacks around the world by Daesh are wrongly focusing attention on Islam, according to an Australian Catholic Priest working to establish connection across religious and cultural barriers.
Rev Dr Patrick McInerney says the hatred and violence perpetuated by IS terrorists is rejected by most Muslims as a perversion of their religion.
He says his Muslim friends talk of their ‘silent scream’ against the misunderstandings and suspicion they now attract.
Father McInerney believes we can learn a lot from the example of St Francis of Assisi who, 800 years ago, was a party to one of the first interfaith dialogues when, at the height of the Fifth Crusade, he risked his life to meet with Muslim leader Sultan Malik al Kamil.
