After the tragic death of 29-year-old paramedic Steven Tougher sent shockwaves through the NSW Ambulance community, his father “called for tougher legislation for those who attack frontline”, according to The Sydney Morning Herald.

Mr Tougher was stabbed at Campbelltown McDonald’s at 5.30am on Friday 14 April, in Sydney’s west, while sitting in the back of his ambulance on a meal break.

A service was held for him on Monday at the University of Wollongong.

And a NSW Ambulance paramedic had penned this ode in response to Mr Tougher’s death and unfolding events.

On Tuesday 1 May, his wife Madison Tougher, wrote on Facebook: “To our friends, family and strangers who have reached out to us over these past few weeks thank you. To the new family we have gained, thank you. Every message, phone call and card has not gone unnoticed. Hold your close ones even closer, give your loved ones that extra kiss and hug. Be kind to yourself & others. Live in the present and be safe. x”
