It’s Maundy Thursday and Hope Brekky is excited about the long weekend! Together with you Hopeland, we’ve created an Easter playlist for you to enjoy.

As well as the old favourites, there are a few surprises mixed in with some modern retakes of traditional hymns.

My personal favourite is This is Amazing Grace by Phil Wickham (have a listen below).

Traditionally, Easter songs are reflective and deep – and rightly so. But it’s only half the story, Sunday is coming!

I once heard it said, ‘we are the Easter people, Hallelujah is our song’. For me, that’s the essence of this song.

Shammah’s all-time favourite Easter song

‘Scandal of Grace’ by Hillsong United.

“The lyrics paint a vivid picture of the sacrifice Jesus made on the cross,” she said.

“The use of the word ‘scandal’ is bold and compelling, because in all honesty, it was pretty scandalous for an innocent man to die for the sins of others.

“By definition, grace doesn’t make any sense.

“It’s undeserved favour – it’s someone else being punished for something you have done.

“Grace is God showing His love for us, even though we could never do enough to earn it.

“That’s what makes the story of Easter so powerful – that’s what makes the lyrics of this song so powerful.

“Jesus inexplicably gave his life for us.

“We didn’t earn it, yet it was freely given.

“It makes no sense, but that is grace.”

Danniebelle’s favourite Easter song

‘Yes He Lives’ by Hannah Hobbs.

“I love it because it’s a declaration of the truth! ‘Yes He Lives!'” she said.

“The beauty of this weekend is that we know the end of the story – the enemy does not win, Jesus lives and conquers the grave!

“There is hope in every situation that we find ourselves in.

“Jesus defeated the devil, He lives so that we may be free!”
