SUMMARY: Judy Hopps (played by Ginnifer Goodwin) is a young rabbit who dreams of becoming a police officer in the world’s most perfectly balanced city, Zootopia. However when she sets out achieve her goal she realises there are some real-world limitations she has to take into consideration – one of which is the presuppositions people have about rabbits. However her friend, a reformed conman fox called Nick Wilde (Jason Bateman) helps her look beyond her prejudices and solve the mystery at the heart of the film.

RATED: It’s rated PG for Mild themes and threat, and some scenes that may scare young children – not as much as seeing a bug’s head torn off in The Good Dinosaur! Most importantly it’s got the Hadley Family Stamp of Approval.

AUDIENCE: This is an excellent film for primary school and early high school kids. I personally road-tested it with a 6, 12 and 14 year old and had no complaints.

WHAT’S GOOD: This is something of an original direction for a Disney film. It starts off as a ‘be all you can be’ story but adjusts to the more realistic direction of taking into account really practical considerations.

WHAT’S NOT: Not much against it, to be honest!

SPIRITUALLY SPEAKING: There are some great Christian truths to be mined – bad things aren’t just associated with bad people because the world is actually broken and we’re all part of that; life is much more complicated than a ‘be all you can be’ bumper sticker.
