When you think of Christian cinema, it’s likely the titles that come to mind were produced by The Kendrick Brothers. Over the last 20 years they’ve been behind some of the biggest releases, including Fireproof, Facing the Giants, War Room and now their latest, Lifemark.
Inspired by a true story, Lifemark tells the story of David, an 18-year-old boy who gets the opportunity to meet his biological mother after being put up for adoption as a baby. David has to confront the reality that he was nearly aborted, and his birth mother has to navigate the fear she feels at how her son’s adoptive parents will feel about her adolescent decision.
While the movie’s not political, touching on the subject of adoption and abortion is emotionally charged content, which Alex Kendrick said we have to approach with “compassion and love.”
“I think when people see that, it helps them to drop their guard,” Alex said.
“We’re not coming into this film to preach at people, to hit them over the head with anything, we’re just presenting a true story the way it happened because it speaks volumes in and of itself.
“It’s a well-told beautiful story where there’s hope and redemption.”
