Read 2 Corinthians 5:7

for we walk by faith, not by sight. (NRSV)

When we look at our future,we may see great mountains looming in the distance. We wonder how we can ever scale those mountains. They overwhelm us,all seems impossible. And as our eyes are fixed on these distant mountains,we find ourselves stumbling in the here-and-now world. We are so fixated on what might be ahead that we fail to negotiate what is with us right now.

If we choose to walk by sight,we will become discouraged. Things seem just too much for us. And we will not only stumble in the present,we will fail to appreciate what God is doing in the present.

So we heed the Scripture which reminds us we walk by faith and not by sight. We believe the God who is sustaining us now will sustain us in the future. Those mountains might look forbidding but when we get to them they will be passable. God will not leave us in impossible situations. God will get us through.

Our eyesight, our imaginations, our supposedly rational thinking all tell us the game is up,that defeat stares us in the face. Faith tells us otherwise. Faith reminds us that to God all those mountains are mere molehills.
