Good morning.
I hope you’re ready for a good day, and you know the best day always starts with some time with God. Every day I like to remind you of the importance of this because our lives are so much more than just existing, just making it through. Life is about making a difference. Life is about your purpose on earth. Life especially is about your relationship with the God who made you for a purpose.
And so your daily time with God is the way you build your relationship with Him, and doing that at the beginning of your day kind of sets your day in motion on the right path. It gets you started in connection with God, and really that’s what the Christian life is all about. It’s not about following some religious system.
It’s about a living relationship with the God of the universe, and that is so awesome.
Well this week I want to talk to you about the helper God has given us in our prayer lives, and I want to start today by reading a couple of verses to you out of Romans chapter 8. Here’s what the apostle Paul says to us.
And in the same way, the spirit also helps our weakness. For we do not know how to pray as we should.
And don’t you find that to be true in your own life?
He goes on, but the spirit himself intercedes for us with groanings too deep for words. And he who searches the hearts, that’s God the Father, he who searches the hearts knows what the mind of the spirit is because he, the spirit, intercedes for the saints, that’s us, according to the will of God.

So the spirit intercedes for us according to the will of God. You know, when we think about having a relationship with someone and we think about communication, we don’t normally think about needing someone to help us talk to someone else, but really when you think about it, isn’t it true that a lot of relationships fail because of a lack of effective communication.
And very often we struggle in knowing how to communicate with God in prayer and how to have an effective prayer life. And here God tells us the Holy Spirit is in our lives, and one of His roles in our life is to help us in our communication with God the Father.
And so when you pray, you can’t see the big picture of everything God’s doing in your life. Sometimes you look and you see things happening and you say, Why would God allow this in my life? And you come to God and you don’t even know how to pray about that. Well, the Holy Spirit is there, and as you go to pray and you express to God, I don’t even know what to say, but here I am, and here’s what’s on my heart.
Oh, the Holy Spirit gets involved, and He prays for you. That’s what it says. He intercedes for you. That is, He goes to God the Father on your behalf, and He prays, and He prays for you in line with what God’s will is, with what God is wanting to do in your life. And isn’t that just what you want, because so often you don’t even know how to pray about a certain situation, and as you face that situation.
You just come to God saying, I don’t know what to say, but I need your help. I need you involved, and the Holy Spirit then comes into your prayers and carries them to the Father with meaning and purpose. Let me just read that last verse again.
God who searches the hearts knows what the mind of the spirit is because he, the Spirit intercedes for believers according to the will of God.
Do you know if you learn to pray and trust the Holy Spirit to carry your prayers to God the Father when you don’t know what to pray, you can be certain God is responding to your prayers.
