Listen: Host Beau Ryan on the challenges of filming 'The Amazing Race Australia' during a pandemic
Although COVID-19 has meant the show will be staying within the confines of our island nation, this season promises the same thrills and adventure of years gone by.
Sam Robinson caught up with the host of The Amazing Race Australia, former professional rugby league footballer Beau Ryan, to ask about the challenges of filming through a historic pandemic.
The season was not without its fair share of 2020-esque hardships. Border closures plagued filming and production – often with challenges being written frantically on last-minute flights, while juggling state border restrictions. To offset the lack of global travel, it also has some of the most difficult challenges in The Amazing Race history.
“We’ve had a lot of people working on the show from overseas… a lot of them have nodded together and said this is quite possibly the most difficult season they’ve ever seen,” Beau told Hope 103.2.
While a regular season would focus on jetlag, language barriers and communication breakdown, filming within Australia didn’t provide such entertainment, which tested the creative limits of the show.

“There’s a lot of long driving,” Beau said.
“You don’t get the jet lag, which probably gives you an advantage, but you’re just tired. Constantly tired.”
