Have you learned to love God simply because of the beauty of who He is?

Key reflections:

  • A healthy relationship with God grows through spending time with Him and obeying Him, which allows His presence and power to become more evident in everyday life.
  • True obedience to God comes from loving and wanting to please Him for who He is, rather than simply hoping to receive blessings or benefits in return.

Transcript

Good morning. Here to help you start your day right.

As we listen to God together in His Word, as we take some time with Him, our relationship with Him will grow, and as your relationship with God grows, you experience more of God at work in your life. His power flows through your relationship with Him. And if there’s something wrong in your relationship with God, then there’s no surprise if you’re not experiencing God at work in your life.

If your relationship with God is healthy, then you see God in your life at every turn.

Well, let’s make our relationship with God a little bit better today as we start the day by listening to Him. We’re talking this week about why we should obey God. And today we come to 2 Corinthians chapter 5, verse 9 in the Bible.

The apostle Paul writing says,

Therefore, being always of good courage and knowing that while we are at home in the body, we are absent from the Lord, for we walk by faith, not by sight. We are of good courage, I say, and would prefer rather to be absent from this body and to be at home with the Lord (in heaven that is). Therefore, also we have as our ambition, as our driving motivation in life whether at home or absent, to be pleasing to him.

You know, even if my obedience to God does nothing for me, it gives me the opportunity to please God.

And He’s the one that I love the most.

Think about your relationship in your family. You know, if I do things for my wife just so that she’ll do things back for me, well, our relationship’s not healthy, is it?

And in the same way, your relationship with God needs to become so much more than just your attempts to stay in His good books so that He’ll bless you in your life.

You know how you know that you’ve really come to love God. You know it when you continue to obey God, even when He chooses not to make life easy or pleasant for you.

Do you love God only for what He does for you?

Or have you learned to love God just for Himself? Have you learned to love God simply because of the beauty of who He is?

His heart of love.

The beauty of his nature.

Have you learned the wonderful joy of simply pleasing God with no strings attached.

Why don’t you just stop right now and have a prayer time in your life today.

In which you ask for nothing except that God would show you how to please Him today.

That God would show you how to please Him today.
