I’m here to help you spend some time with God today. The most important thing in your life is your relationship with God, and your relationship with God only grows and only stays healthy as you spend time with Him. Think about your other relationships. Isn’t that the way they work? Well, your relationship with the Lord works the same way. Spend time with God. You want to be prepared for those tough times when they come into your life.
Make sure your relationship with the Lord is strong. You want to be ready to respond to temptation when it comes.
Keep close to God. You want to make sure your life has meaning and purpose or follow God’s lead in your life. In everything, make sure time with God is the foundation of your life.
We’re talking this week about unguarded moments. We quoted CS Lewis yesterday when he said, The enemy will not see you vanish into God’s company without an effort to reclaim you.
That’s right. The enemy of our souls, the devil, he doesn’t want to see your life come into a healthy relationship with God and for you to start to accomplish things for God’s kingdom in this world and be full of meaning and purpose. He wants to destroy your life. He wants to attack God by hurting you.
In Matthew chapter 4, we see Satan coming to attack Jesus and tempt Jesus and notice the temptation. It says Matthew chapter 4.
Then Jesus was led up by the Spirit into the wilderness to be tempted by the devil. And after he had fasted, that means he hadn’t eaten anything, after he had fasted for 40 days and 40 nights, he then became hungry.

You can imagine how hungry Jesus would have been. He was fully man. He had a body just like ours. It needed food, needed sustenance. You can imagine the desperate hunger after 40 days without eating. It says in the next verse, and the tempter came and said to him- If you are the Son of God, command that these stones become bread.
But Jesus answered and said, It is written in the Bible, Man shall not live on bread alone, but on every word that proceeds out of the mouth of God.
Well, if you want to stand strong and not give in, you need to protect yourself from unguarded moments, and you see that one of the moments that the devil uses to attack us is when we are physically hungry.
That’s right.
The tempter came to him, you know, we are physically weak and often our mental defenses are down when we’re hungry, when we haven’t had enough to eat, or when we’re tired. Well, if you want to stand strong, you need to care for your body’s needs to keep you alert, to help you avoid having the devil sneak up on you in a weak moment.
That’s right.
Guard your moments. Take care of your body so that you are alert and ready to respond when temptation comes.
